The Comprehensive Food Consumption Database is a source of information on food consumption across the European Union (EU). It contains detailed data for a number of EU countries. The database plays a key role in the evaluation of the risks related to possible hazards in food in the EU and allows estimates of consumers’ exposure to such hazards, a fundamental step in EFSA’s risk assessment work. The database will also be relevant in future for other fields of EFSA’s work, such as the assessment of nutrient intakes of the EU population.

The concise database gathers data on average daily consumption of foods per person sourced from the Member States. It comprises 15 broad categories and 21 subcategories. The intention of the concise database is to provide a valuable first screening tool to EFSA, its Scientific Panels, and potentially to other scientists in Member States, to help carry out preliminary exposure assessments.

The Canadian Nutrient File (CNF) is a computerized, bilingual food composition database containing average values for nutrients in foods available in Canada. Much of the data in the CNF have been derived from the comprehensive United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Nutrient Database for Standard Reference, up to and including Standard Release 22. Foods included in the USDA database that are known not to be on the Canadian market are excluded. Modification for Canadian levels of fortification and regulatory standards, along with addition of Canadian only foods or Canadian commodity data, as well as where appropriate, some brand name foods, forms this standard Canadian resource.

The downloadable files comprising the Canadian Nutrient File database are unaccompanied by software. They are relational files available in three formats: delimited ASCII text files, DBF files and CSV files. In order to view and utilize these files one must both own and be familiar with a database management software program. Examples on the market include Microsoft Access, DBASE, FoxPro, Lotus Approach and many others. Spreadsheet programs such as Excel are not large enough to open most of these files and files become truncated.

RTI, under contract with FDA, constructed this database on dietary supplement products sold on the Internet that contain animal ingredients. A survey conducted by Research Triangle Institute (RTI) under contract with FDA. The Access database contains labeling and catalogue information of approximately 3,000 dietary supplement products sold in the United States. The database includes information such as the product's name, the name and address of the manufacturer or distributor, the product's ingredients, and claims about the product. Claims may be about the health benefits or nutrient content of the product or may be nutritional support statements. Thus, the database provides information on the range of products available for sale in the United States, where these products are sold, what they contain, and what claims are being made about these products. Also available are the final report of the project, which includes information on the procedures used and a description of the database, and a supplement to the final report, which includes detailed records from the data collection process
