FOSCOLLAB is a new tool to support risk assessment and decision-making in food safety through improved data-sharing and access. 

This tool is being developed to extract and present key globally available food safety data and information into a single, interactive and user-friendly access point. It is designed with food safety professionals in mind to be the first place to go when having to access a risk or make a decision and will bring together data and information from multiple sectors.

The GEMS/Food programme is collecting data to serve the risk assessment done in particular by the JECFA and the JMPR. A particularly important component of the GEMS/Food is to collect the concentration data for chemical contaminants in food through authorized national and regional authorities. This function is now simplified by the launch of a new web-interface allowing a direct upload of occurrence data on the WHO web site.

The Comprehensive Food Consumption Database is a source of information on food consumption across the European Union (EU). It contains detailed data for a number of EU countries. The database plays a key role in the evaluation of the risks related to possible hazards in food in the EU and allows estimates of consumers’ exposure to such hazards, a fundamental step in EFSA’s risk assessment work. The database will also be relevant in future for other fields of EFSA’s work, such as the assessment of nutrient intakes of the EU population.

The International Maximum Residue Limit Database provides users with a list of MRL tolerances by active ingredient to desired export destinations.  Users may query by crop, pesticide active ingredient and pesticide type. 

This database contains Codex Maximum Residue Limits for Pesticides and Extraneous Maximum Residue Limits adopted by the Codex Alimentarius Commission up to and including its Twenty-second Session (June 1997). In the database a user can obtain information on Codex Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) and Codex Extraneous Maximum Residue Limits (EMRLs) both for a pesticide or certain pesticides, and for a commodity or a group of commodities. Names and definitions of commodities are found in the Codex Classification of Foods and Animal Feeds (Section 2 of Codex Alimentarius, Second Edition, Volume 2 (1993)).

The Foodborne Outbreak Online Database has been designed to allow the public direct access to information on foodborne outbreaks reported to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Most outbreaks are reported to the National Outbreak Reporting System (NORS) by the state, local, territorial, or tribal health department that conducted the outbreak investigation. Outbreak reporting is voluntary. Multi-state outbreaks are generally reported to NORS by CDC.

The Director of Center for Food Safety and Security Systems (CFS3), Dr. Robert Buchanan, has been collecting and indexing relevant articles in the area of microbial food safety for the last 25 years. He is making his personal efforts available to the public through FoodRisk.org. The databases are available in Microsoft Access and are organized in 12 files according to the main subject matter. Once downloaded, the databases can be searched, queried, and used to develop reports using the various capability available within Microsoft Access. The database topics include acid resistance, different biological pathogens, Hazard analysis of critical control points (HACCP), predictive microbiology, produce, risk assessment, and seafood.

This database provides the most recent specifications for flavourings evaluated by JECFA. All specifications are in English only, but the query interface and background information are provided in English, French, Spanish, Arabic and Chinese. Browsable through an alphabetical index of flavourings, or searchable by JECFA, CAS or FEMA number or according to their structural group.

SDWIS/FED is a database designed and implemented by EPA to meet its needs in the oversight and management of the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA).
