The Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) has launched an International Food Additive Database designed to provide industry with easy access to accurate and current regulatory requirements on food additives in importing countries around the world.

Eastern Research Group, under contract with FDA, conducted this study of food product open dates. The information in this study was sought through literature reviews, multiple in-store surveys of food products and discussions with industry personnel and trade organizations. The survey universe consists of 149 product categories covering baked, dairy, frozen, refrigerated, shelf-stable, and chilled ready to eat food products. In addition to examining the current regulatory and industry framework under which U.S. food manufacturers currently operate, this study also provides quantitative information on the current practices on different types of food labeling in the United States. Furthermore, the study includes a comprehensive analysis of industry practices on shelf life testing and decision criteria used in open dating to better qualify the observed results and to further evaluate the potential consequences of adding or modifying open dates on food products. The last section of this study provides a summary of recent studies on consumer food handling and storage practices, as they are relevant to how consumers may interpret different product open dates

The ILSI Crop Composition Database is a project of the International Life Sciences Institute. The first three versions of the database have represented a compilation of crop analyses from a number of companies engaged in agricultural life sciences. Through ILSI, the participants have standardized and pooled their crop data in order to make the data available to scientists from academia, government agencies, and industry, and to the general public. It is envisioned that future versions of the database will include other publicly available data that meet the acceptability criteria of ILSI and are submitted from scientists and other researchers representing a variety of public and private organizations.

A survey conducted by Research Triangle Institute (RTI) under contract with FDA. The Access database contains labeling and catalogue information of approximately 3,000 dietary supplement products sold in the United States. The database includes information such as the product's name, the name and address of the manufacturer or distributor, the product's ingredients, and claims about the product. Claims may be about the health benefits or nutrient content of the product or may be nutritional support statements. Thus, the database provides information on the range of products available for sale in the United States, where these products are sold, what they contain, and what claims are being made about these products. Also available are the final report of the project, which includes information on the procedures used and a description of the database, and a supplement to the final report, which includes detailed records from the data collection process
